The Southern Appalachians Road & Recreation Atlas from Benchmark Maps covers the Appalachian mountain region from Harpers Ferry in the northeast to Springer Mountain and Little River Canyon in the southwest. Instead of organizing the maps around state boundaries, Benchmark mapped the mountains as a connected region, making this especially useful for road trips, overlanding, camping, hiking, paddling, and general backcountry exploration.

Created after more than two years of field checking and cartographic work, this 144-page large-format atlas combines detailed landscape maps with public-land boundaries, recreation information, access points, campgrounds, trails, waterways, attractions, and an extensive road network.

For backroad travelers, one of the standout features is the road classification system. Maps distinguish between paved roads, unpaved roads, and four-wheel-drive roads, making the atlas a valuable tool for both trip planning and navigation in the field.
