Expedition Georgia is about exploring the places that make Georgia worth wandering—the mountain roads, backcountry trails, rivers, waterfalls, campsites, small towns, and forgotten corners you don’t always find from the highway.
We believe adventure doesn’t have to mean traveling across the country or spending thousands of dollars on gear. Sometimes it’s a dirt road you’ve driven past a hundred times. A trail disappearing into the woods. A river you’ve never paddled. Or a place on the map that makes you wonder, What’s out there?
Our goal is simple: help people get outside, explore Georgia, and find out.
BUILT ON A GREAT FOUNDATION
Expedition Georgia was created by David Yates, whose passion for exploring Georgia helped establish the brand and the community surrounding it. Through years of adventures, photographs, stories, and shared experiences, David built something that encouraged people to get out and see more of this state.
In 2026, David entrusted Expedition Georgia to new ownership and the next chapter began.
We take that responsibility seriously.
The goal isn’t to erase what came before or turn Expedition Georgia into something unrecognizable. It’s to build on the foundation David created, preserve the spirit of exploration at its core, and expand what Expedition Georgia can become.
We’re grateful to David for creating Expedition Georgia—and especially for trusting us to carry it forward.
CARRYING IT FORWARD
Expedition Georgia is now led by Steven Lash, but his connection to outdoor adventure started long before Expedition Georgia.
Steven was introduced to the outdoors by his father at an early age through hiking, canoeing, camping, and simply spending time in wild places. Those experiences stuck.
Years later, looking for an escape from a life increasingly spent behind desks and computer screens, Steven created Sawtooth Bound around a simple idea: adventure should be something ordinary people can actually go do.
Sawtooth Bound’s mantra was “Exploring the Wilds on Foot and on Wheels.” It meant backpacking and hiking, but it also meant dirt roads, four-wheel drive, camping, and following curiosity beyond the pavement. Over time, paddling became another way to explore.
That same philosophy now helps shape the next chapter of Expedition Georgia.
This isn’t about being an expert standing at the trailhead telling everyone else how to adventure. We’re still exploring, scouting, learning, getting things wrong occasionally, turning around when a road doesn’t go where we thought it did, and discovering new places along the way.
And that’s kind of the point.
THE NEXT EXPEDITION
Today, Expedition Georgia is growing into a resource for outdoor adventure travel throughout Georgia—whether the journey happens on four wheels, two feet, or with a paddle in your hands.
We’ll be scouting and documenting overland routes, backroads, hiking trails, waterfalls, rivers, campsites, historic locations, roadside discoveries, and plenty of places that don’t fit neatly into a category.
Some adventures will be easy enough for a first-timer. Others may require four-wheel drive, backcountry experience, navigation skills, or a willingness to get dirty.
We’ll tell you the difference.
Our goal isn’t simply to publish lists of destinations. We want to provide the routes, field notes, stories, practical information, and firsthand experience that help people confidently plan adventures of their own.
Because you don’t have to travel halfway around the world to have an expedition.
Sometimes you just have to leave the pavement.
