A new trend in action movies recently (other than filming in Georgia) has become featuring badass overland-spec vehicles. We first noticed this in the Black Panther, with the infamous 4Runner chase scene. The phenomena caught our attention again in 2017’s Jumanji sequel and we recognized it most recently in Mark Wahlberg’s new movie, Mile 22.
The movie’s plot has nothing to do with overlanding but that doesn’t stop this action flick from including some serious off-road muscle! Unlike Black Panther, Mile 22 used two different types of vehicles as both a Toyota 4Runner and Jeep Wrangler were utilized in the film’s action scenes.
The 4Runner is outfitted with a modest lift, aftermarket wheels, mud tires, basket-style roof rack (that houses a satellite dish, for some reason), what appears to be N-Fab side steps, off-road front bumper, and a snorkel – of course.
The chase Jeep appears to be modified similarly to the 4Runner with a slight lift, aftermarket wheels, mud tires, satellite dish, and again – a snorkel.
As with most vehicles in high-speed chases, both vehicles are ultimately destroyed but it’s well worth it to see rigs we enjoy on the big screen! We’re definitely interested to see this movie when it hits theaters and you better believe we’ll be first in line to buy tickets. With stars like Mark Wahlberg, Lauren Cohen, John Malkovich and Ronda Rousey, at very least it will be entertaining.
